Psychiatry Residency Program

A Message from the Program Director

Gary A. Brown, DO, FAPAWelcome to the Psychiatry Residency Program at Capital Health. We are thrilled that you are considering joining our community, where our mission is to provide an exceptional educational environment that shapes trainees into outstanding clinicians, leaders, educators, and researchers in the field of psychiatry.

Our program is led by dedicated faculty recognized for their commitment to teaching. We offer a comprehensive and integrative curriculum designed to prepare you to become an independent, compassionate, and well-rounded physician. In addition to the pursuit of academic excellence, the program emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and personal and professional development, ensuring that each resident’s well-being is also prioritized.

We seek residents who exhibit curiosity, passion, a strong work ethic, critical thinking skills, and self-reflection. At the heart of our program is a commitment to patient-centered care, particularly for underserved communities such as Trenton, where social determinants significantly impact patient health. We value resident input and actively incorporate feedback to enhance the training program. Residents’ contributions are vital in shaping the program and help them develop into role models for future generations of psychiatrists.

Throughout your training, you will encounter a diverse range of psychopathologies, both with and without significant comorbidities. You will have the opportunity to train in innovative care models (including the state-designated regional Emergency Mental Health Services Center for Mercer County, New Jersey) and engage with Centers of Excellence within our hospital system. Additionally, you will participate in hospital committees, quality improvement projects, research, and scholarly activities in collaboration with esteemed institutions like Rutgers, Rowan, and Drexel Universities.

We are excited to introduce you to our program and look forward to supporting you on your journey. At Capital Health, your residency will be a transformative experience filled with professional milestones, personal growth, and lifelong relationships.
