Deena Elkafrawi, MD

Dr. Deena Elkafrawi is a board certified obstetrician gynecologist and fellowship trained maternal fetal medicine specialist with extensive expertise in the care of high-risk pregnancies. Since joining Capital Health Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists in 2024, she has been providing comprehensive care for complex maternal and fetal conditions through advanced prenatal diagnosis, detailed fetal imaging, invasive procedures, and multidisciplinary perinatal consultation.

Dr. Elkafrawi completed her fellowship training in maternal fetal medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, where she managed some of the most medically and surgically complex pregnancies in the region. She also played an active role in quality improvement and patient safety as a member of both the Obstetrics Quality Improvement Committee and the Perinatal–Pediatrics Morbidity and Mortality Committee, reviewing cases of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality to improve systems of care and clinical outcomes. 

Dr. Elkafrawi completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York City Health and Hospitals/Lincoln Weil Cornell School of Medicine in the South Bronx, where she served as Chief Resident. She received her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.

An active physician-scientist, Dr. Elkafrawi has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including the Journal of Perinatal Medicine, European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Her research has focused on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease, maternal outcomes in COVID-19, placental abruption, and disparities in maternal health. She has presented her work nationally and internationally and has received multiple awards for research excellence.

Dr. Elkafrawi is a member of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the New Jersey Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. She is fluent in Arabic. In her free time, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her husband and two children.
