Capital Health is here to help you navigate through the heartbreak of infant and perinatal loss. Our trained nurses, social workers, bereavement doulas, and spiritual care staff are fully prepared to comfort you and provide you with resources during your stay and after discharge to support you every step of the way.
Losing a baby requires a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental place to navigate through your grief and share your experiences with other families. This is why we also offer a monthly support group, STAR – Support Together and Reflect (Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group), which welcomes all parents who have experienced the loss of a baby at any gestational age.

Pregnancy After Loss – Preparing for a Rainbow Baby
Capital Health's Rainbow Baby Program helps families who have experienced the loss of a child by supporting them through their subsequent pregnancy and delivery. The term rainbow baby represents the light that follows the darkness of a storm and signals hope for brighter days. However, the birth of a rainbow baby can prompt a range of emotions, from joy to guilt to reemerging grief.
Our goal is to support families through this experience, thereby making the grief journey a little less painful and the birth story a bit more joyful. Parents are welcome to make any requests that will make their experience the most comfortable and healing for their family.
As part of the Rainbow Baby Program, you have the option of having a printed rainbow placed on the door of your room in both on Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby units to alert hospital staff entering the room. All Rainbow Baby families also receive a themed gift package that includes a hat, blanket, and other rainbow themed items, thanks to the generous efforts of our volunteers, as well as a baby book donated by former rainbow baby families.
Expectant parents of rainbow babies who are interested in learning more or participating in our Rainbow Baby Program can contact Krista Gervon by emailing [email protected] or calling 609-303-4139.
