Capital Health has earned recognition from the American Medical Association (AMA) as a Joy in Medicine® organization for 2026. The prestigious recognition from the country’s leading physician association honors health systems, hospitals, and medical groups that prioritize proven methods to reduce burnout and enhance the professional fulfillment of doctors that comes from patient care. Since its inception in 2019, the AMA Joy in Medicine Health System Recognition Program has recognized more than 250 organizations across the country.
“While burnout rates are declining for U.S. physicians, they still remain high when compared to other U.S. workers,” said Dr. Tara VanHise, a family medicine physician at Capital Health Primary Care – Ewing and medical director of Capital Health’s THRIVE Clinician Wellness Program. “Being named a Joy in Medicine organization affirms our commitment to ensuring Capital Health doctors receive the support they need to successfully navigate the administrative challenges, staffing shortages, and stigma around mental health that they face every day.”
Organizations that meet the rigorous criteria of the Joy in Medicine Health System Recognition Program are leaders in the national effort to transform health care work systems and address the root causes of burnout among care teams. Capital Health’s THRIVE program is a committee of dynamic clinical leaders who are the eyes, ears, and voice of Capital Health clinicians. THRIVE (Together – Healthy – Resilient – Innovative – Visionary – Empowered) is a transparent, inclusive, and safe resource that works with Capital Health administration to improve the well-being of its clinicians through individual and organizational strategies.
