PGY-1 (Class of 2020)

Dr. Peter Lan grew up in Montgomery, NJ and currently lives in East Windsor, NJ. He graduated from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University in May 2019. During pharmacy school, Dr. Lan volunteered some of his time at the Student Run Free Clinic in Newark, NJ, as well as at the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) clinic in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital New Brunswick.

Dr. Lan’s career interests include internal medicine and critical care, particularly in the intensive care unit. He plans to obtain a teaching certificate during his PGY-1 residency so he can gain experience as a preceptor. He also hopes to become a clinical pharmacist within the next five years. He mostly just watches anime in his free time, though he can also build computers.

Dr. Shefkate (Kate) Bakiu is from Pequannock, NJ and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in May 2019. During her time as a student, Dr. Bakiu worked as an intern at CVS Pharmacy in Totowa, NJ and was heavily involved in volunteer programs, including a weeklong retreat volunteering at Give Kids The World, a nonprofit resort for children with life-threatening illnesses, in Kissimmee, FL. In addition to her clinical studies, she also completed her Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in pharmaceutical management.

During her residency, Dr. Bakiu looks forward to earning her teaching certificate with the opportunity to precept pharmacy students. Her professional interests include emergency medicine and critical care and hopes to pursue a PGY2 residency in one of those fields.
