Omara Afzal, DO, MPH, FACOG
Associate Program Director, OB/GYN Residency
Dr. Omara Afzal joined Capital Health in 2022. Previously, Dr. Afzal was an assistant professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and was actively involved in resident and medical student education and training. She also served as the medical director of the OB/GYN ambulatory practice at Mount Sinai Hospital and was core faculty in the OB/GYN residency program. Dr. Afzal earned her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City. Following her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York Medical College in Valhalla, Dr. Afzal completed a fellowship in global women's health at Mount Sinai in New York City. Dr. Afzal also earned a Masters of Public Health degree in health policy and management from New York Medical College School of Health Sciences and Practice.
Dr. Afzal is passionate about global and community health, community outreach and empowerment, and medical education training.
Robert Berk, MD FACOG
Core Faculty, OB/GYN Residency
Dr. Robert Berk is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has been providing care for women in the region for nearly three decades. He is trained and experienced in performing minimally invasive, robotic-assisted procedures using the da Vinci surgical system, as well as urogynecology procedures.
Dr. Berk received his medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA. He completed post-graduate training at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in Baltimore, MD and Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in Allentown, PA.
Dr. Berk’s secrets to living are variety and to follow your passion. And with all the hats women wear as daughters, wives, mothers, coworkers and/or caregivers, he recommends that they schedule regular time “just for themselves.” He enjoys life in Bucks County with his wife and two daughters and stays active in his free time with SCUBA diving, and biking. Dr. Berk also has been involved in medical missions in the Dominican Republic.
Anthony Mackaronis, MD FACOG
Core Faculty, OB/GYN Residency
Dr. Anthony Mackaronis is an attending physician and core faculty member for the Capital Health OB/GYN Residency Program. He received his medical degree from UMDMJ – RWJMS in Camden, New Jersey and completed his residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Capital Health in 2019, Dr. Mackaronis practiced in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for almost 15 years. He has taught medical students and resident physicians in both hospital and outpatient settings during his professional career. Currently, he serves as volunteer assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey and previously held an adjunct assistant professorship at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A highlight of his teaching career was sharing a teaching award with his partners at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in 2016.
Dr. Mackaronis’ professional interests include abnormal uterine bleeding, contraception management, and the impact of social media on public health and the spread of misinformation/disinformation. He volunteers with the Garces Foundation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and as a class ambassador for his alma mater, Davidson College, in Davidson, North Carolina. In his spare time, he enjoys concerts, movies, ballroom dancing, table-top gaming, and Philadelphia sports (Go Birds!).
William Stanell, MD FACOG
Core Faculty, OB/GYN Residency
Dr. Stanell has been a dedicated provider at Capital Health since 1996. He earned his bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania in 1987, followed by his medical degree from Drexel/Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1992. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1996.
Renowned for his humor and approachable bedside manner, Dr. Stanell is passionate about teaching and mentoring medical students and residents, sharing his expertise with the next generation of health care professionals. He warmly welcomes women of all ages, from young mothers to geriatric patients, providing compassionate care throughout all stages of life.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Stanell enjoys spending time outdoors, indulging in hobbies such as hunting and fishing for trout and salmon. A devoted Penn State fan, his team spirit shines through with every cheer for the Nittany Lions – “We Are!”
Katelyn Tripod, MD FACOG
Core Faculty, OB/GYN Residency
Dr. Katelyn Tripod earned her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Tripod’s clinical interests include general obstetrical and gynecological care, with a focus on gynecological surgery. She has a national certification in laparoscopic surgery from the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and is trained in robotics. She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Anne Walker, MD FACOG
Core Faculty, OB/GYN Residency
Dr. Anne Walker is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology with 20 years of experience providing health care for women in the Bucks/Mercer County region. She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, PA. Dr. Walker is certified to perform minimally invasive, robotic-assisted procedures using the da Vinci surgical system.
Dr. Walker is a strong believer in the power of listening and learning from other people’s experiences, which means she takes her time with her patients. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and, as a volunteer, organizes a team for an annual mission to the Dominican Republic to perform gynecologic surgery for women in need.
In her free time, Dr. Walker enjoys biking, running, water sports, and spending time with her children and extended family.
Thomas Westover, MD
Core Faculty, OB/GYN Residency
Dr. Thomas Westover is board certified in maternal fetal medicine and obstetrics and gynecology and has almost 30 years of experience as a specialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine diagnosing, monitoring, and treating complications for expectant mothers and their unborn babies during high-risk pregnancies.
Dr. Westover received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey. He subsequently completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology and his fellowship training in maternal fetal medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Before joining Capital Health, Dr. Westover was an attending physician at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey for 26 years. He has held several academic appointments during his career, most recently serving as associate professor of OB/GYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine at Cooper Medical School/Rowan University. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Westover has been principal investigator and co-investigator for a number of maternal fetal medicine studies. He has published research in web-based publications for the New Jersey Department of Health and numerous peer-reviewed medical journals and abstracts.
Dr. Westover’s commitment to advancing maternal fetal medicine is also demonstrated by his involvement in professional committees on the national, state and local levels for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the New Jersey Hospital Association, the New Jersey Department of Health, and others. He is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, the New Jersey Maternal Fetal Medicine Society, and the International Society of Ultrasound in OB/GYN. He is currently the Chair of the New Jersey section of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the President of the New Jersey OBGYN Society and Co-Chair of the New Jersey Hospital Association Statewide Perinatal Safety Collaborative.
Dr. Westover has been married to his wife Betsey for more than 30 years, and they have three children and one grandchild. He is an amateur guitarist and tennis player and loves music, travel, cartography and Beatles trivia.
