Working closely with the patient’s referring physicians, these board certified interventional radiologists use real-time image guidance — including X-ray, CT, and ultrasound— to pass small catheters, wires, or needles directly to the site of disease through incisions no larger than a pencil tip. This precision approach means less risk, shorter recovery times, and no overnight hospital stay for most patients.
Clinicians at Capital Health Interventional Radiology Specialists also support cancer treatment, from diagnosis through therapy. In careful coordination with patients’ oncologists and surgical teams, they offer image-guided procedures such as biopsies, port placement, percutaneous tumor thermal ablation, chemoembolization and radioembolization, and management of cancer-related pain. The team also offers a new FDA-approved treatment to patients with colorectal cancer that has metastasized to the liver. Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT), also known as radioembolization, is a minimally invasive, same-day procedure for inoperable liver cancer that delivers millions of radioactive microspheres through a catheter into the liver, where they selectively target liver tumors with a dose of internal radiation up to 40 times higher than conventional radiotherapy, all while preserving healthy tissue.
Dr. Choudhri is also part of a team at Capital Health Cancer Center that performed the first liver histotripsy procedure in Mercer and Bucks counties, marking a major milestone for Capital Health and patients in the community. Histotripsy is a non-invasive therapy that uses advanced imaging and ultrasound to destroy targeted liver cancer tumors with no cutting or probing.
