If you have been diagnosed with heart failure, traveling to and from frequent appointments can be exhausting and difficult to manage. To help ease the burden for patients and their loved ones, Capital Health Cardiology Specialists now offers the CardioMEMSTM HF System, a remote pulmonary artery pressure monitoring device that allows heart failure patients to enjoy more of their daily activities while their care team closely follows their conditions.
The remote system streamlines outpatient monitoring with an implantable sensor that helps you and your doctor track your heart. Daily readings give your care team a clearer picture of your condition so they can adjust your treatment as needed.
How It Works
With every heartbeat, your right ventricle (the lower right chamber of the heart) pumps blood to the lungs through a large blood vessel called the pulmonary artery (PA). The blood pressure of the PA tells doctors how hard your heart is working to pump that blood.
To measure your daily PA pressure remotely with the CardioMEMS HF System, the highly trained team at Capital Health Cardiology Specialists inserts a tiny pressure sensor into your pulmonary artery, often as a same-day outpatient procedure. No battery or lead placement is required. Using a portable reader from the comfort of your home, daily readings are transmitted to a secure website for review by your doctor.
With the remote monitoring system’s customizable settings, your doctor can identify trends and see changes that need attention, allowing them to contact you and make adjustments to your care before you experience worsening symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, or swelling. This proactive approach to heart failure treatment reduces need for frequent in-office visits while keeping you closely connected to your care team between visits.
Benefits include:
- The easy-to-use reader transmits data to your doctor from the comfort of your home.
- Quicker adjustments to your care plan before symptoms become worse.
- Reduced likelihood of hospitalizations for heart failure.
- Closer connection with your care team between appointments.
- No batteries, leads, or maintenance.
