Director, Operations – Institute for Urban Care
Kim Watson is a registered nurse and director of Operations for Capital Health Institute for Urban Care (IUC). She has spent more than 21 years of her nursing career at Capital Health and brings a wide range of experience from her background in critical care and program development. Kim is certified in trauma care and has more than a decade of clinical hours at the Bristol Myers Squibb Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
Kim has been a major contributor to the development of programs at Capital Health, including the highly specialized Neuro Intensive Care Unit at Capital Institute for Neurosciences. Prior to her current role, Kim served on numerous internal and external committees, most recently as a member of the Advisory Board of the New Jersey Cohort Advisory Committee and the Mercer County Advisory Board for the Reduction of Gun Violence.
The programs that Kim has successfully designed, developed, and implemented align with the mission of the IUC, focusing on three key areas: chronic disease, maternal and child health, and behavioral health/substance use. With a strong background in operational management, strategic planning, and community engagement, Kim plays a critical role in enhancing the health and well-being of the Trenton community.
Kim’s contributions have helped the IUC secure more than $19 million in multi-year reimbursements for quality improvement projects approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, in collaboration with the Department of Health and the Department of Human Services. Additionally, she has been instrumental in obtaining multiple grants for Capital Health and the IUC, ensuring continued funding totaling over $37 million across several rounds.
Kim completed her undergraduate studies at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut, where she also received her master’s degree with a specialization in nursing management and organizational leadership. She received an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences from Mercer County Community College in Trenton, New Jersey and a Diploma of Nursing from Capital Health School of Nursing, also in Trenton.
Outside of her busy schedule at Capital Health, Kim enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking with her dogs, and spending time with her family.
