Family-Designated Contacts

We recognize that you may have an extended circle of concerned family and friends. In order to keep clear communication and protect the privacy of your loved one, we ask that each family designate a spokesperson. The physician and nursing staffs will provide updates to this person and answer any questions that may arise. The spokesperson must be able to give legal consent for operations or procedures if necessary.

When a special family situation is present (e.g. divorced parents of injured children), a maximum of two spokespersons may be designated. Names and telephone numbers of the spokesperson(s) will be recorded on the patient's chart. The spokesperson may call the patient care unit directly for information at any time. In the interest of privacy and confidentiality, information will only be given to the spokesperson. Please do not encourage others to call.
