If possible, you should arrange to have someone stay with you for the first 24 to 48 hours.
Keep the walkway into your home clear and remove throw/scatter rugs that could cause you to slip and fall.
Keep at least a two-foot wide path throughout your home to make it easier for you to get around.
Move frequently used kitchen and bath items within easy reach.
Prepare or purchase frozen meals.
Make sure that you have a chair in your home with arms and a seat at least as high as your knees. It is recommended that you do not sit with your knees higher than your hips.
In addition to the chair, you may also want to consider purchasing or installing the following items to make your home safer and easier to navigate after your surgery:
Raised toilet seat
Shower stool or chair
Grab bars in the shower or tub area
A bag for your walker to help you carry small items like phones
