At Capital Health, we believe healing encompasses more than medic
al treatment. Through visual art, music, live performances, and thoughtfully designed spaces, our Healing Arts Program creates moments of comfort, inspiration, and connection for patients, visitors, and staff.
Research shows that engaging with visual art can reduce stress and lower blood pressure while supporting emotional well-being and recovery. Because of this powerful connection between creativity and well-being, we have woven the healing arts into the fabric of our health care environment.
Our Healing Arts Program is designed to create a calming, uplifting, and supportive atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff. Through curated visual art, live performances, and thoughtfully designed spaces, we aim to offer moments of comfort, reflection, and emotional relief during the challenges of medical care. Art Gallery
Engaging with visual art has been shown to reduce anxiety, stimulate cognitive function, and provide emotional grounding, with benefits that extend to everyone who walks our halls.
The Healing Arts Steering Committee curates three rotating exhibitions each year in the Investors Bank Art & Healing Gallery, located in the atrium on the second floor of Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell. These exhibitions feature the work of talented local artists and are intentionally selected to evoke calm, curiosity, and inspiration.
Artwork in the gallery is available for purchase, with 75% of each sale supporting the artists and 25% going to the Healing Arts Program to sustain future exhibitions, performances, and arts initiatives.
Music and Live Performances
Music has a measurable impact on the nervous system by slowing heart rate and promoting feelings of relaxation and healing. At Capital Health, we harness these effects through a variety of live musical experiences.
Each weekday, live piano music fills the second-floor atrium at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell, extending through the hospital's main entrance and offering patients, visitors, and staff a warm and welcoming experience. Throughout the year, special performances including small orchestral ensembles, vocalists, and dance pieces bring movement, rhythm, and beauty directly into the healing environment.
Transforming Spaces Through Art
Evidence shows that thoughtfully designed surroundings can reduce stress and enhance well-being for patients, visitors, and staff). Across Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton and Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell, we integrate art installations that transform clinical spaces into environments that feel more human, comforting, and hopeful. From hallways and waiting areas to patient spaces and the discharge lounge, artwork can be found throughout Capital Health's campuses.
