In addition to providing traditional emergency medical care for patients suffering from illness and injury, Capital Health offers advanced emergency care for patients suffering from traumas and neurologic conditions.

Level II Trauma Center

Injury is the fourth leading cause of death among Americans, killing more than 93,000 people each year. Care provided in a trauma center decreases the chance of death following injury by 20 to 40 percent compared to care in hospitals without a trauma center. In addition to saving lives, trauma centers ensure that patients return to the highest level of function possible following severe injury.

The Bristol-Myers Squibb Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center is a state-designated level II trauma Center and one of only 10 designated trauma centers in New Jersey. We provide comprehensive care from the time of injury through rehabilitation. Our Center meets high national standards for patient care and teaching.

As a state-designated level II trauma center, we undergo a designation process that involves detailed regular inspections by national and state organizations to assure high standards of care. We are the regional referral center for injured patients in Mercer County and adjacent parts of Somerset, Hunterdon, Burlington, and Middlesex counties as well as nearby areas of Pennsylvania. Designated trauma centers care for severely injured patients as well as victims of accident types known to be associated with a high risk for injury. Trauma patients include persons involved in motor vehicle crashes, falls, and assaults with knives, guns, or blunt objects. Trauma centers have the latest technology and experienced staff available to care for your family member. Besides providing care to the injured, trauma centers are also active partners with the community in injury prevention and public education.

Comprehensive Stroke Center

As a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Capital Health Regional Medical Center offers 24 hours a day/7 days a week advanced care for patients throughout the region with strokes and other cerebrovascular emergencies. This includes inpatient neurosciences units for both intensive and intermediate care, neuro-imaging and laboratory services, advanced diagnostics including CT perfusion and cerebral angiography, the latest in neurosurgical techniques and access to research in the area of neurovascular care. Pediatric Emergency Services

A trip to the emergency room with a child is never fun, but long waiting times, crowded waiting areas, and care providers who don't know how to deal with kids can make the experience even worse. For longer than anyone else in the region, Capital Health has offered a specialized Pediatric Emergency Department for children in Mercer and Bucks counties. Located at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell, we’re raising expectations even higher about what a trip to the emergency room should be for parents and children.
