What We Treat

CHRONIC PAIN

Pain is a sign that something is wrong with your body. Sometimes the pain disappears as the body heals. When it persists and lingers for an extended period of time, it moves beyond an acute reaction to injury or illness and becomes a chronic pain. It can be difficult to manage and even become intractable, causing severe disruption to all aspects of life. There are many causes of chronic pain. It can be caused by cancer or other illnesses, or it can be the result of a chemical reaction in the body such as inflammation. It can also be a mechanical problem such as damage to or compression of nerves, damaged intervertebral discs, or other injuries to the spine, joints, or muscles.

COMMON EXAMPLES OF CHRONIC PAIN:

  • Pain from headaches
  • Head and facial pain
  • Back pain (radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, spondylosis, facet arthropathy),
  • Sciatica
  • Myofascial pain
  • Neuropathic pain (complex regional pain syndrome, shingles pain/post-herpetic neuralgia)
  • Cancer
  • Vascular disease
  • Pain from trauma or injuries

At the Center for Pain Management, part of Capital Institute for Neurosciences, we offer patients the advanced diagnostic and treatment options needed to help identify the source of complex, chronic pain and then treat or manage it. Our goal is to help our patients find relief and have an improved quality of life. When pain becomes an obstacle, our pain diagnostic and management program can help.
