A board certified surgeon, Dr. Allen is fellowship trained in breast surgical oncology. This specialized training was completed at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, the country’s best hospital for oncology for 5 years running according to US News and World Report.
What that means for Dr. Allen’s patients at Capital Health is that they are being seen by a breast surgeon who has trained with various leaders in the field, at an institution where researchers are focusing on innovations such as breast cancer vaccine research, evaluating distant metastasis in blood and bone marrow, and novel therapies and procedures such as skin sparing mastectomies. While at MD Anderson, she was part of the largest multidisciplinary breast team in the country. From a research standpoint, Dr. Allen has worked with the leaders of major clinical trials that developed standards for breast cancer staging and treatment. We are pleased that Dr. Allen brought these relationships with her to Capital Health.
In addition to being a highly skilled surgeon, Dr. Allen also serves as the director of Capital Health’s Center for Comprehensive Breast Care, which coordinates for patients all of the healthcare system’s breast services including diagnostic capabilities, oncologic surgery, reconstructive/plastic surgery, radiation and chemotherapy options and support services such as physical therapy, nutrition, social work.
