Applications will be accepted from September 1st through February 15th each year and must be accompanied by a $50.00 non-refundable application fee. Please note prerequisite college coursework. All program applicants will be required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). Additional TEAS information is provided below.
Eligibility for ARRT certification requires candidates to have earned an associate degree or higher. To meet this requirement, the Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton offers two (2) admission tracks:
1. Certificate Track: Two-year (2), full-time course of study for those students who have previously earned an associate degree or higher.
2. A combined Certificate Track with an Associate in Applied Science – Health Science Radiography Concentration through a formal articulation with Mercer County Community College, West Windsor, NJ. Students selecting this option must successfully complete all graduation requirements of both Capital Health and Mercer County Community College prior to ARRT certification exam and State of NJ licensure eligibility.
It is recommended that students pursuing this option have approximately 13–15 credits completed prior to the start of the certificate program at Capital Health.
Students who have completed college courses at a college other than Mercer County Community College and who are approximately 18 credits away from completing a degree at that institution could pursue the certificate track at Capital Health. These students must document an associate degree or higher prior to ARRT Registry eligibility. Consult the Program Director for specific details.
Minimum admission requirements for the Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton are as follows:
1. Graduation from an accredited high school, satisfactory completion of a General Education Diploma (GED), or completion of secondary school through homeschooling as defined by state law.
2. College level Algebra (3 credits) or college level Statistics (3 credits) with a “C” or better*
3. College level English Composition I (3 credits) with a “C” or better*
4. English Composition II (3 credits) with a “C” or better OR Oral Communications (3 credits) with a “C” or better*
5. Achievement of a Reading Score at or above the National mean on the "Test of Essential Academic Skills" (TEAS) is advised. See admissions procedures below for details.
6. Three professional letters of recommendation.
7. Submission of an official high school transcript and official transcripts from ALL other educational institutions attended since high school. Applicants submitting transcripts from institutions outside the United States must have these transcripts translated and evaluated by an accredited credentialing service.
8. Interview by program officials (by invitation only).
9. All Capital Health Radiography students must complete college level Anatomy and Physiology I and II (4 credits each) with a “C” or better. If these courses are not complete prior to the start of the Radiography program, accepted students must meet the prerequisites for these courses as established by the college. See Program Officials for further information. Preference is given to applicants who have successfully completed these courses.
*A credit granting score on the CLEP exam is also acceptable.
Prior to enrolling, all accepted applicants must:
1. Undergo and successfully pass a criminal background check, required for all students. To take part in the educational program an applicant must not have been convicted of or pled guilty to a violent crime, illegal sale, use of or theft of controlled dangerous substances, or a sexual offense. An applicant whose criminal background check discloses a conviction or unresolved arrest for a crime or misdemeanor that could jeopardize the health, safety or welfare of any patient, employee, student or visitor may also be barred from entrance to the School. The criminal background check will be conducted by an external service provider.
2. Undergo and successfully pass a drug screening.
3. Submit health history, physical examination and immunization records with all required immunizations and immune titers.
4. Submit documentation of medical insurance coverage.
The admissions procedure is as follows:
1. The program’s application, application instructions, brochure, a career information sheet, and program effectiveness outcomes are available on the program’s website.
2. Applicants are required to submit the completed application with essay, a $50.00 (fifty) dollar non-refundable application fee, and three (3) letters of recommendation. The applicant must request official high school transcripts and all transcripts from institutions of higher learning. All transcripts must be sent directly to the Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton by the issuing institutions.
3. Upon receiving the completed application and all official transcripts, the transcripts are evaluated for high school diploma, GED, or completion of secondary school through homeschooling as defined by state law as well as prerequisite coursework. Prerequisite coursework can be “in progress” or scheduled to be completed prior to the next Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton start date. A class schedule must be provided as evidence of enrollment. Once these requirements are satisfied, the applicant is scheduled for the "Test of Essential Academic Skills" (TEAS). If the applicant has taken the "Test of Essential Academic Skills" (TEAS), or other health occupations aptitude exam for entrance into another program within the past two (2) years, they may request that an official copy of those results be sent to Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton.
4. Upon receipt of the test results, an academic evaluation is conducted by program officials. The academic evaluation assesses the results from the TEAS Examination, prerequisite and other higher level math courses, and academic sciences such as high school Biology and other higher level science courses. A minimum score of 9 out of 17 points and an acceptable passing score on the reading section of the TEAS Exam is required to proceed in the application process. Generally, a reading score on the TEAS exam at or above the national mean is required to proceed. If a candidate does not achieve a reading score at or above the national mean, they can retest. An improvement in the reading score to within 10% of the national mean must be achieved prior to progressing through the application process if one of the following conditions is met:
- The applicant has completed a minimum of 15 college credits and documents a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, or
- The applicant has completed a developmental reading improvement course as approved by program officials.
Applicants who do not score a nine (9) or higher on the academic evaluation or have not met the reading requirement are notified, and college-level preparatory coursework may be suggested.
5. Once the applicant has progressed through the academic evaluation, an interview and tour are scheduled. The applicant is provided with a tour of the program’s facilities and has an opportunity to talk with a currently enrolled student. An interview will also be conducted by the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator (or designee). Additionally, the applicant is required to review several program documents. At the conclusion of the interview/tour, the applicant will be evaluated utilizing the Application Review Report Form by three (3) separate individuals: the Program Director on interview, the Clinical Coordinator (or designee) during interview, and a member of the Admissions Committee who rates the candidate by paper documents only. The Application Review Report evaluates the applicant’s academic background, collegiate GPA, professionalism, work ethic, communication skills, dependability, cooperation and leadership skills as follows:

6. At the highest recommendation of the Admissions Committee, an applicant may be offered early admission to the program.
7. On or about March 1 of every year, the Admissions Committee selects applicants with the highest scores on the Application Review Report for a total enrollment of 8 students (program capacity). The program also selects up to five (5) qualified “alternate status” applicants.
8. An extension of the application deadline is at the sole discretion of program administration.

Information for Applicants With Disabilities
In addition to the academic requirements for admission, the following criteria are considered the physical requisites for successful performance in the radiography program. All applicants should be able to:
- Communicate effectively with patients and personnel.
- Reach the x‑ray tube, standardly utilized at 5'3" from the floor.
- Assist a patient onto and from an x‑ray table.
- Lift and carry cassettes and other small radiology equipment.
- Safely transport a patient on a stretcher and in a wheelchair.

Entrance Testing
The Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton utilizes the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), which is mandatory of all applicants. If you have taken the TEAS exam at a different facility within the past two (2) years, you must contact ATI and request that an official TEAS transcript be submitted to [email protected].
All applicants must register in advance.
To register, applicants must visit www.atitesting.com, select "register for TEAS" on the homepage ($120 testing fee), choose Trenton, NJ and our school name, select your preferred testing date, complete paid registration and print confirmation page for your records.
All Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton TEAS exams are administered remotely. ATI provides specific instructions and requirements for remote testing. Several days prior to your scheduled exam, Capital Health will send you additional information regarding your exam.
Should it be necessary to cancel or reschedule your TEAS exam with the Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton, you will receive an email indicating the procedure. Please be sure to check the email, used for registration, prior to the scheduled exam.
