Trenton, NJ - Capital Health's Board of Directors has announced the creation of a new governance structure, including a corporate board, which will focus on the development of a more fully integrated healthcare delivery system and overall system growth.
The current board of directors will oversee hospital operations, the commitment to high quality, patient-centered care and initiation of new programs and innovations that meet the needs of the community.
Samuel J. Plumeri, Jr. will chair the board of Capital Healthcare Corporation. Nancy H. Becker will assume the role of chair of the hospital’s Board of Directors.
The board’s action recognizes the substantive changes that healthcare reform has had and will continue to have upon the organization of healthcare delivery.
“As healthcare rapidly changes, it’s critical that we are well positioned to manage those changes as well as explore opportunities that will further move our system forward,” said Al Maghazehe, president and CEO of Capital Health. “Creation of the new corporate structure will give Capital Health the flexibility it needs to continue our leadership position in the healthcare landscape.”
“Sam just completed his term as chairman and Nancy as vice chair of our hospital board. We have benefitted greatly from their combined leadership and expertise in managing the type of growth we have seen within Capital Health,” said Maghazehe.
“It is equally important that at this juncture, as we continue to grow and adapt to the changing healthcare needs of the region, we have leaders who recognize the complexity of healthcare today and are able to provide strong and steady leadership,” said Al Maghazehe.
“With Sam as chair of the corporate board and Nancy as chair of the hospital board, we continue with the same outstanding leadership that has brought us so far, and now the possibilities are endless,” Maghazehe added.
“Nancy’s 12 years of service on our board, most recently as vice-chair, plus her extensive background in government and public affairs, means she is no stranger to aligning people and goals to accomplish big things, which will enhance our efforts to move Capital Health’s vision forward.”
Plumeri, of Hamilton Township, is the current vice chairman of the New Jersey State Parole Board and also serves on the executive board of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. Previously, Sam was superintendent of Police and Director of Public Safety for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Sam was elected as Mercer County Sheriff for four terms beginning 1990 and ending in 2001. His career in law enforcement began more than forty years ago with the Trenton Police Department.
“Having been involved with Capital Health for almost 25 years, and having been part of the amazing morphing of our community hospital into a regional community hospital has been so rewarding. I just could not pass on the opportunity to continue to be part of the organization’s promising future,” said Plumeri.
Becker, of Princeton, was the founder and president for 30 years of the independent public affairs consulting firm, Nancy H. Becker Associates. As the first woman lobbyist in Trenton, she oversaw the firm’s government affairs and public relations practices. She currently holds a position at the Center on the American Governor, Eagleton Institute of Politics, Rutgers University and is also a visiting associate at Eagleton. Becker is a board member of Rider University and on the Community Advisory Board of NJTV. Additionally, she is the author of A Handbook on Lobbying that was developed for the Center for the American Woman and Politics at Rutgers University.
