Specialty Care Transport Services

Our Specialty Care Transport Unit provides emergency and non-emergency transport of patients that need transfer to another facility for advanced care or procedures not available locally. In addition to transporting critical patients, our Specialty Care Transport Unit (SCTU) also assists our Mobile Intensive Care Units in providing emergency pre-hospital advanced life support (ALS) care during high volume periods.

Specialty care transport teams consist of specially trained critical care nurses (SCTU RN) or mobile intensive care nurses (MICN), with specialized equipment and capabilities not normally found on a Basic Life Support ambulance. The SCTU RNs are certified by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services as EMTs. They are licensed registered nurses who are specially trained to care for critical care patients in a pre-hospital transport environment. The MICNs are endorsed by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and are required to complete and maintain the same continuing education programs and certifications as our mobile intensive care paramedics (MICP), with additional training specific to equipment and procedures they may encounter when transporting critical patients.
