Self-Compassion Support Group

Wednesdays, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
March 6 - April 24, 2024
Location: 540 North Woodbourne Road, Langhorne, PA 19047

Are you an individual who wrestles with low self-esteem and/or perfectionism? Do you have a hard time forgiving personal actions and/or choices? Are you unable to celebrate your personal achievements? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be someone who could benefit from self-compassion. Self-compassion is the ability to extend tender empathy and understanding to one’s self in instances of perceived inadequacy, failure, or general suffering. By applying therapeutic techniques, individuals tend to notice an increase in happiness and a sense of connectedness with self and others, including a decrease in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mood symptoms. If you desire to learn more, join Licensed Social Worker Honor Hannah on a journey of self-acceptance and healing by way of turning kindness inward.

This psychoeducational group provides participants experiencing symptoms of anxiety with evidence-based coping strategies through the use of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). DBT is a behavioral approach that aims to empower individuals by increasing desired behaviors and/or decreasing undesirable behaviors while improving overall quality of life. This course will provide participants who have previously attended a DBT skills group with assistance, accountability and application of five main skills, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, walking the middle path, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Participants will have opportunities to practice and process learned skills in a supportive, nonjudgmental and therapeutic environment. This group requires participants to have prior knowledge of DBT skills. A thorough review of DBT is provided in an Introduction to DBT course, which is offered each year in the fall.
