Dr. Felipe Albuquerque

Dr. Felipe Albuquerque is the director of Endovascular Neurosurgery and the Evie and Lou Grubb Chair of Neurovascular Research at the Barrow Neurological Institute. He is a professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Arizona Medical School. He is also the director of the Endovascular Neurosurgical Fellowship at the BNI, in which capacity he has trained more than 20 endovascular neurosurgeons.

He is active in academic neurosurgery and has served both the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery (SNIS) and the Joint Cerebrovascular Section (JCVS) in a variety of leadership capacities, including treasurer of the SNIS (2013 – 2015), program chairman of the 2013 annual SNIS meeting, member-at-large of the SNIS executive committee (2012), program chairman of the 2012 annual fellows course, program chairman of the 2016 JCVS meeting, vice chairman of the JCVS 2014, and member-at-large of the JCVS (2004). He is currently the secretary and treasurer of the Society of University Neurosurgeons. In addition, he is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery (JNIS). He has also served on the editorial boards of World Neurosurgery and Neurosurgery and as an associate editor of the video section of Journal of Neurosurgery Focus.

He continues to pursue an academic endovascular career that has involved the publication of more than 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 50 book chapters/reviews, and the delivery of more than 250 national and international lectures. He is a co-editor of the textbooks Neurointerventional Techniques: Tricks of the Trade and Flow Diversion of Cerebral Aneurysms.

His wife, Ruth E. Bristol, is a pediatric neurosurgeon at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and he has two sons, Lucas Bristol Albuquerque (11) and Oscar Foss Albuquerque (8).
