Alumni (Class of 2013)



Dr. Omar Ahmad received his medical degree from Baqai Medical & Dental College, Pakistan in 2007. He graduated with a distinction in Biochemistry, Pathology and Ophthalmology.

During residency, Dr. Ahmad gave an oral presentation at SGIM National Conference, entitled “Silent Squeeze: Abdominal Obstruction from Repeated Paracentesis.”

Other than English, Omar is fluent in Urdu, Hindi and Spanish and he enjoys playing basketball in his free time.
Dr. Jasmine Ahuja graduated from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, India in 2007. She is a recipient of multiple awards and gold medals during her medical school. Additionally, she was awarded an eight week clinical clerkship scholarship at Harvard Medical School in 2007.

While at Capital Health, Dr. Ahuja was selected to give a poster presentation at SGIM National Conference on her abstract, “Right Atrial Thrombus Associated with Indwelling Dialysis Catheters”. Each year, she was voted the Best Medical Resident by nursing staff and the program’s medical staff. Dr. Ahuja is currently at the State University of New York in Buffalo, NY where she is an Infectious Disease Fellow.

Jasmine enjoys reading, playing sports and watching movies. Other than English she is fluent in Hindi, Punjabi and Tamil.

Dr. Rajan Garg graduated from Dayanand Medical College, India in 2007.

Dr. Garg was honored to be selected to give an oral presentation at the American Heart Association International Stroke Conference in Hawaii during his final year of residency. He also received an award for Outstanding Resident Research Project. Dr. Garg is currently furthering his training as a Fellow in Critical Care in at the University of Miami.

Rajan enjoys cooking, listening to music and playing basketball. Other than English he is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi.

Sergey Gerasim 

Dr. Gerasim joined the Capital Health Residency Program in 2011 as a second year medical resident. He finished his intern year at Brookdale University Medical Center, and obtained his medical degree from Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. Prior to starting his residency, Dr. Gerasim completed training in both general surgery and orthopedic surgery in Russia. His interest in the rheumatology aspect of medicine led him to pursue training in Internal Medicine in the United States. During his residency at Capital Health, Dr. Gerasim was voted “Best Medical Resident” by his peers in both of his years with the program.

Aside from medicine, Dr. Gerasim is the proud father of a son with whom he enjoys outdoor activities and attending family gatherings.

Raul Ebran-Gonzalez  RAUL EBRAN-GONZALEZ, MD
Dr. Ebran-Gonzalez started his medicine studies in the High Institute of Medical Sciences of Santiago the Cuba, Holguin Faculty, and graduated from Central America Health Sciences University in 2007. He joined Capital Health after completing his internship in the University Hospital Ramon Ruiz Arnau in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He is interested in outpatient management.

Dr. Ebran-Gonzalez was recognized in his third year for his outstanding medical knowledge as evidenced by his score on the In-Training Exam. Upon graduation, Dr. Gonzalez has gone to work in an outpatient setting in Florida.

He enjoys music, history and international politics.
Dr. Marta Herrera graduated from Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de la Havana, Cuba in 1987. She completed residency in ophthalmology and worked as an ophthalmologist in Venezuela and Cuba for several years. In 2000 she became the Chief of the Oculoplastic Surgery Department at the Instituto de Oftalmologia in Havana, Cuba. She also conducted research in the field of ophthalmology and is widely published in peer reviewed journals.

Dr. Herrera has gone on to work in primary care in an outpatient setting in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Herrera is fluent in Spanish and English. She enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.
Abigail Lomarda 


Dr. Abigail Lomarda graduated from Dr. Jose P. Rizal College of Medicine, Philippines in 2007. During her undergraduate education she was on the Honorâ’s list and received the "Best Research Presenter Award".

Dr. Lomarda was accepted as a Fellow in the Geriatric Program at the University of Miami where she is currently continuing her training.

Abigail is fluent in English, Tagalog and Cebuano. She enjoys painting, drawing, basketball, cooking and travelling.


Dr. Kalpana Nagarkar graduated from the Government Medical College, Nagpur, India in 1985. She brings with her several years of teaching, research and work experience to the program. Prior to relocating to the USA, Kalpana rose to the level of Associate Professor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences. She has a keen interest in research and has published widely in peer reviewed journals in India.

During her residency, she was very active in submitting abstracts, three of which were accepted in her third year to both SGIM and ACP National conferences. Dr. Nagarkar is currently at the University of California, Los Angeles where she is a Geriatric Fellow.

Kalpana is fluent in English, Hindi and Marathi. She enjoys listening to music, reading and gardening.

Nadereh Nasserhelali  NADEREH NASSERHELALI, MD
Dr. Nadereh Nasserhelali graduated from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Iran in 1992. She completed her residency training in nuclear medicine in Iran and ranked first in the Board Examination for Nuclear Medicine in her university and ranked third all over Iran. She worked as a nuclear medicine specialist in a teaching hospital and rose to the rank of Director of the Nuclear Medicine Department.

Dr. Nasserhelali is currently at Baystate Medical Center in Massachusetts where she is a Fellow in their Geriatrics Program. Nadereh speaks English and Farsi fluently. She enjoys travelling, swimming, watching movies and walking.

Dr. Alireza Nejad graduated from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran in 1995. He received his PhD in Epidemiology from Michigan State University in 2006. As of 2007 he has held the position of Assistant Professor at Wake Forest University Health Sciences, Winston-Salem in North Carolina. Additionally, he has several years of work experience as a general practitioner in Iran. He has received multiple awards and is widely published in United States in peer review journals.

Dr. Nejad is currently a Fellow in Johns Hopkins’ Allergy and Immunology Program in Maryland.

Nejad speaks English and Farsi fluently. He enjoys yoga, gardening and reading.


Dr. Binzhi Zhang graduated from Jiamusi University, China in 1993. He worked as an Attending Surgeon in China prior to relocating to the United States. More recently, Binzhi worked as a research assistant at Penn State University College of Medicine, Pennsylvania. He has a keen interest in nephrology and is extensively published in peer review journals.

After graduation, Dr. Zhang went to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware to work as a hospitalist.

Binzhi is fluent in English and Chinese. He enjoys playing soccer.
