May is National Stroke Awareness Month

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. and a leading cause of adult disability. At Capital Health’s Capital Institute for Neurosciences, preventing, diagnosing and treating stroke is of significant importance.

“Our Comprehensive Stroke Center is one way that our Institute is setting a new national standard for providing the highest level of lifesaving care for time-sensitive brain conditions like strokes, bleeds, and aneurysms,” said Dr. Erol Veznedaroglu, director of the Capital Institute for Neurosciences and chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Capital Health. “We’re not just providing the care, we’re helping develop what that care is.”

In addition to its stroke program and its world class neurosurgeons, the Institute offers programs for headache, Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive disorders, Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, complex pain, pediatric neurology and autism, and concussions – among other neurological conditions.
