March 22, 2011

TRENTON, NJ—Dr. Francis Rosato, a respected gastrointestinal surgeon with fellowship training and renowned expertise in minimally invasive procedures, has joined the medical staff at Capital Health and launched Advanced Surgical Associates of New Jersey. Dr. Rosato was most recently on the staff at Jefferson University Hospital and Methodist Hospital, both in Philadelphia, PA.

“Many of our area’s general surgeons and gastroenterologists have worked with Dr. Rosato in the past, and can speak to his academic level of expertise in the area of minimally invasive surgery for liver and pancreas cancers,” said Al Maghazehe, PhD, president and CEO of Capital Health. “Having performed a countless number of these surgeries prior to joining us, he brings our patients and their referring physicians the same, unmatched experience in minimally invasive surgeries of the digestive tract without having to travel to big cities like Philadelphia and New York City.”

The digestive system can cause many complex problems that affect your everyday life. Dr. Rosato is among a select few New Jersey surgeons who have experience providing minimally invasive procedures to treat a variety of benign digestive conditions and cancers anywhere in the digestive system so that those who suffer from these conditions can be back on their feet and back to their lives as quickly as possible.

Dr. Rosato, who is board certified in general surgery, received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed his internship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He also completed his fellowship training in gastroenterological surgery at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Minimally invasive procedures require smaller incisions than major, open surgery and less anesthesia, which puts patients at less risk for complications. As a result, patients experience less pain, heal much faster and can resume normal activity within much shorter periods of time.

Dr. Rosato focuses on a variety of advanced laparoscopic and robotic (using the da Vinci® Surgical System) procedures to treat digestive conditions such as achalasia (difficulty swallowing), Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Crohn’s, and complex abdominal wall reconstructions as well as cancers of the stomach, liver, pancreas, small bowel and colon.

“Capital Health’s successful model of forward-thinking medicine has been shown most recently in its growing programs for neurosciences and trauma. With a new, state-of-the-art hospital coming in Hopewell Township and large scale renovations happening at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, I’m excited to be a part of the vision to bring a full complement of advanced services in the field of digestive health for patients and their physicians in the Central New Jersey region,” said Dr. Rosato.
