Trenton, NJ – Capital Health Renal Dialysis Services recently celebrated 40 years of providing life-sustaining service to those in need of kidney care.
From left, Diane Miller, nurse manager of Hemodialysis; Dr. Barry Cohen, medical director; and Linda Wood, director of Renal Dialysis Services, celebrate 40 years of providing renal dialysis services to Mercer and Bucks county residents.
"It has been a fantastic 40 years and everyone over the years has helped contribute to the incredible program we have today,” said Dr. Barry Cohen, the dialysis program’s medical director.
The area's only hospital-based program, Capital Health Renal Dialysis Services has been providing exceptional care for acute and chronic kidney disease patients from throughout central New Jersey for more than four decades.
"Our nephrologists, nurses, technicians, dieticians and staff provide quality, dignified care in a comfortable, state-of-the-art setting," said Cohen. “It’s amazing to see how far we have come from such a small unit to a huge life-saving service for patients who live throughout the region.”
The Capital Health Renal Dialysis Services program, which has seen over 20,000 patients since it opened, has been caring for end-stage renal disease patients in five counties in New Jersey and Pennsylvania (Mercer, Bucks, Burlington, Hunterdon and Warren). Currently, the center sees 75-100 new patients each year and receives another 250-300 patients transferred from other centers that require a higher level of care.
Led by Medical Director Dr. Barry Cohen and a team of other fully certified nephrologists (physicians who have received advanced training in treating kidney disease), the staff of registered nurses, certified technicians, social workers and dietitians administers dialysis services in a relaxing, comfortable space. Their experience and expertise in treating kidney disease allow them to provide patients with the highest quality of care and support during their treatment.
Through the same program, Capital Health administers peritoneal home dialysis service for patients living in the greater Mercer County area, enabling qualified patients to receive treatment in the privacy and convenience of their own homes.
Conveniently located at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, the outpatient dialysis services include 28 hemodialysis stations and treatment times are available morning, noon and night.
“After 40 years, we’ve proved that Capital Health Renal Dialysis Services is still the one that neighbors across the region turn to for the most advanced kidney care,” said Cohen.
