Inpatient speech-language pathology is provided 365 days a year at both hospitals. Our inpatient speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are skilled in providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with speech and language, cognitive and swallowing impairments. Common impairments are stroke, traumatic brain injury and other medical and neurological conditions. In the early stages of recovery, the SLP may need to focus on the patient’s ability to respond to environmental stimulation. For patients who are having difficulty eating, the SLP assesses the ability to chew and swallow food safely. Our SLPs also address the patient’s ability to understand language and express his or her needs and works closely with your medical team to determine the best discharge plan.
