Roy Patchell, MD, FAAN
Internationally recognized for his work in neuro-oncology, Dr. Patchell joined Capital Health from Barrow Neurological Institute of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona where he was Chairman
of the Division of Neurology.
Prior to that he held a faculty position at the University of Kentucky and was the Chief of Neuro-Oncology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Dr. Patchell’s research has had a significant impact on the treatment of patients with metastatic brain
tumors. Invited to lecture internationally, Dr. Patchell is widely published including papers in The New
England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and The Lancet, among
Dr. Patchell continuously receives research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the
National Cancer Institute, and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and is an established
leader in his field.
Dr. Patchell completed his neurology residency at Johns Hopkins University. In addition to a fellowship in
neurology at New York Hospital Cornell, Dr. Patchell completed a fellowship in neuro-oncology at Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
