Dr. Kenneth Liebman, board certified in neurological surgery, serves as director of Neurosurgical Critical Care at Capital Health where more brain and aneurysm surgeries are performed than at any other New Jersey hospital and where one of the largest dedicated neuro ICUs on the east coast is located. Dr. Liebman is also director of the Cerebrovascular Division in the Department of Neurosurgery.
After completing his neurosurgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Dr. Liebman was director of cerebrovascular neurosurgery for the Department of Neurosciences at Seton Hall University. He was chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at Muhlenberg Hospital prior to joining the medical staff at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he received fellowship training in cerebrovascular microsurgery and interventional endovascular neurosurgery. As an assistant professor of neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University's Jefferson Medical College, he started and directed a microvascular course taught to residents and fellows.
Dr. Liebman is a fellow of both the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Liebman is uniquely trained in both traditional neurosurgical approaches as well as endovascular approaches. One of only a select number of neurosurgeons to be dual-trained, Dr. Liebman's patients have the full range of treatment options available to them under the direction of the same physician.
As part of the Capital Institute for Neurosciences research program at Capital Health, Dr. Liebman is an investigator on numerous clinical trials focusing on stroke and aneurysm. Dr. Liebman was the first physician in the country to treat a patient using Trevo® Pro Retriever a device for the removal of clots in ischemic stroke patients during its investigational phase. He was also one of the first in the Philadelphia region to use Solitaire™, another clot retrieval device. In addition, Dr. Liebman was among the first in the region to use the Merci Retriever and Penumbra devices as well as the Cordis Enterprise Stent.
Dr. Liebman is trained in the use of the CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System, providing patients with a non-invasive treatment option for AVMs, brain and spinal tumors, and trigeminal neuralgia.
Dr. Liebman is a member of a variety of professional and scientific societies. A nationally recognized academic leader in the area of cerebrovascular care, Dr. Liebman has written chapters and numerous articles in various publications and peer-reviewed journals that are used as data for colleagues across the country, and he has lectured at international conferences for physicians around the world.
Dr. Liebman is consistently recognized by both patients and peers for his outstanding care, having been honored in multiple publications as a Top Doctor. Dr. Liebman has been recognized in SJ Magazine’s Top Doc issue and as part of South Jersey Magazine’s Top Docs as voted by readers feature for the past two years. Dr. Liebman has also been recognized as a Patient’s Choice and Top Surgeon award winner for multiple years.
