Dr. Erol Veznedaroglu 

Erol Veznedaroglu, MD, FACS, FAANS, FAHA           
Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery
Director, Capital Institute for Neurosciences

Dr. Veznedaroglu serves as chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Capital Health and director of the Capital Institute for Neurosciences.                   

Dr. Veznedaroglu, also known as Dr. Vez, received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and completed his internship in surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He completed residencies in neurological surgery and pediatric neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, respectively.          

Dr. Vez received his fellowship training in cerebrovascular/ neurointerventional neurosurgery and neuro critical care at Thomas Jefferson Hospital for Neurosciences in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Vez is board certified in neurological surgery and is dual trained in both traditional and endovascular neurosurgical approaches.

Dr. Kenneth Liebman 

Kenneth M. Liebman, MD, FACS, FAANS 
Director, Neurosurgical Critical Care
Director, Cerebrovascular Division, Department of Neurosurgery

Dr. Liebman, director of neurosurgical critical care at Capital Health, received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Liebman, who is also director of the Cerebrovascular Division in the Department of Neurosurgery, completed his internship in general surgery at Temple in addition to completing his neurosurgical residency at Temple and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his fellowship training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for Neurosciences in cerebrovascular surgery and interventional neuroradiology. Dr. Liebman is board certified in neurological surgery and is dual trained in both traditional and endovascular neurosurgical approaches.

Dr. Mandy Binning 

Mandy J. Binning, MD
Director, Comprehensive Stroke Center

Dr. Binning received her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado. She completed her residencies in general surgery and neurosurgery at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Binning received her fellowship training in endovascular/vascular neurosurgery at Capital Health and the University of Buffalo in New York state.  Dr. Binning is dual trained in both traditional and endovascular neurosurgical approaches.

Dr. Lee Buono

 

Lee Buono, MD, FACS

Dr. Buono received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Buono is board certified in neurological surgery. Dr. Buono specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery.

 Dr. Patrick Connolly

Patrick Connolly, MD, FACS

Dr. Connolly is a board certified neurosurgeon who received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at Indiana University Hospital and did a fellowship in functional and epilepsy neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Connolly has particular focus on the surgical treatment of movement disorders, epilepsy, and spasticity.

Dr. Zakaria Hakma

Zakaria Hakma, MD

Dr. Hakma completed his medical degree at Damascus University. Following an internship in internal medicine, Dr. Hakma completed residencies in both neurology and neurosurgery at Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Hakma completed his fellowship training in endovascular/vascular neurosurgery at Capital Health.

 Dr. Arlan Mintz

Arlan H. Mintz, MD, MSc, FRCS(C), FACS, FAANS
Director, Neurosurgical Oncology
Surgical Director, CyberKnife®

Dr. Mintz, director of Neurosurgical Oncology and surgical director of CyberKnife®, joined Capital Health from the University of Pittsburgh, which has one of the nation’s leading neurology/neurosurgery programs. Dr. Mintz is part of the National Brain Tumor Center at the Institute. He was an associate professor of Neurological Surgery and Radiation Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and director of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Adult Neurosurgical Oncology Program.

Dr. Mintz is board certified in neurological surgery in both the United States and Canada and specializes in the surgical and radiosurgical treatment of brain and spine tumors.

Dr. Mintz received his medical degree from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. He went on to complete his surgical internship at McMaster University and his neurosurgery residency at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Mintz also holds Master of Science degrees in both neurophysiology and clinical epidemiology.

Dr. Roy A. Patchell 

Roy A. Patchell, MD, FAAN     
Director, Neuro-Oncology

Internationally recognized for his work in neuro-oncology, Dr. Patchell joined Capital Health from Barrow Neurological Institute of St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Patchell is director of neuro-oncology at the Capital Institute for Neurosciences and is part of the Institute’s National Brain Tumor Center.      

Dr. Patchell was Chairman of the Division of Neurology at Barrow. Prior to that he held a faculty position at the University of Kentucky and was the Chief of Neuro-Oncology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Dr. Patchell completed his neurology residency at Johns Hopkins University. In addition to a fellowship in neurology at New York Hospital Cornell, Dr. Patchell completed a fellowship in neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Patchell’s research has had a significant impact on the treatment of patients with metastatic brain tumors. Invited to lecture internationally, Dr. Patchell is widely published including papers in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and The Lancet, among many others. Dr. Patchell continuously receives research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and is an established leader in his field.

Dr Mitra Assadi 

Mitra Assadi, MD 
Director, Headache Medicine and Pediatric Neurology

Dr. Assadi received her medical degree from Phalavi Medical School in Shiraz, Iran. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Prince George's Hospital in Cheverly, Maryland, followed by a residency in neurology at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Dr. Assadi received her fellowship training in pediatric neurology at St. Christopher Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. She is board certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology and headache medicine. Dr. Assadi specializes in headache medicine and pediatric neurology.

Dr Michelle Dougherty

Michelle L. Dougherty, MD
Medical Director, Epilepsy Program

Dr. Dougherty is a board certified, fellowship trained specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. She received her medical degree from MCP Hahnemann University School of Medicine and completed her fellowship training in EEG and epilepsy at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, OH.

Previously, Dr. Dougherty was the director of the Neurology Residency Program, Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and EEG Laboratory at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. She also was an instructor at the Department of Neurology at Brown University School of Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Jill M. Farmer, DO, MPH

Dr. Farmer received her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) after completion of her Masters in Public Health which she received from UMDNJ as well. Following the completion of her degrees, Dr. Farmer completed an internship with Georgetown University/Providence Hospital’s Department of Family Medicine and a neurology residency at Georgetown University Hospital. During her residency she was Chief Resident in the Department of Neurology. Dr. Farmer remained at Georgetown for her fellowship in movement disorders. She is board certified in neurology.

Dr. G. Peter Gliebus 

G. Peter Gliebus, MD     
Director, Alzheimer's Disease and Cognitive Disorders Program

A board certified neurologist, Dr. Gliebus received his medical degree from Vilnius University and specializes in cognitive disorders.  Following an internal medicine residency at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, Dr. Gliebus completed a neurology residency at Drexel University College of Medicine where he was named chief resident. Dr. Gliebus was then named as the J. Rosenstone Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology Fellow at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine's Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center.

 Dr Olga Goldfarb

Olga Goldfarb, MD 
Medical Director, Autism Program

Dr. Goldfarb is director of the Autism Program, part of the Capital Institute for Neurosciences. She received her medical degree from the Russian State Medical University in Moscow, Russia. She is a board certified neurologist with certifications in pediatric neurology and headache medicine.
She completed her residency training in pediatrics and pediatric neurology at Nassau County Medical Center (affiliated with the State University of New York) in East Meadow, NY, where she was also named Chief Resident.

Dr. Emil Matarese

Emil Matarese, MD       
Director, Concussion Program

Dr. Matarese is a board certified neurologist who serves as director of the Institute's Concussion Program. He received his medical degree from the College of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. Dr. Matarese completed an internal medicine residency at University Hospital in Newark, after which, he did his residency in neurology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Chirag S. Shukla, MD

Dr. Shukla received his medical degree from Shri M.P. Shah Medical College in Jamnagar, India. He completed his residency in neurology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Shukla received fellowship training in neurophysiology also at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Shukla is board certified in neurology, vascular neurology, clinical neurophysiology, and electrodiagnostic medicine.  

 Dr. John Vester

John Vester, MD

Dr. Vester received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. Following his internship and residency in medicine at Hartford Hospital, he went on to complete his neurology residency at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Vester is board certified in neurology.

 Dr. Michael Moussouttas

Michael Moussouttas, MD

A neurointensivist, Dr. Moussouttas, is a board certified specialist in neuro critical care, Dr. Moussouttas received his medical degree from State University of New York (SUNY) at Syracuse - Syracuse, NY. He then completed residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, subspecialty training in cerebrovascular diseases at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven CT, and additional subspecialty training in neuro critical care at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.

 Dr. Jennifer Yanoschak

Jennifer Yanoschak, MD        
Director, Stroke Unit, Capital Health Medical Center- Hopewell

Dr. Yanoschak completed her medical degree at Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. After completing her medical degree, Dr. Yanoschak completed an internal medicine residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She then completed a residency in neurology and a fellowship in stroke/neuro critical care at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. 

PAIN MANAGEMENT

 
Dr. Ricardo Cruciani

Ricardo A. Cruciani, MD, PhD             
Director, Center for Comprehensive Pain Management and Palliative Care

Dr. Ricardo Cruciani is a board certified neurologist and pain management specialist. He joined Capital Health from Beth Israel Medical Center in New York where he was Vice-Chairman for the Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care, and Chief, Pain Division, Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care. Dr. Cruciani was also Director of the Center for Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation of New York.
Dr. Cruciani was on the faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine as a Professor of both Clinical Neurology and Clinical Anesthesiology. He has a PhD in pharmacology and completed a fellowship in pain management at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Cruciani was a resident in the Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry at Cornell University and the Department of Neurology at Albert Einstein Medical College.

Dr Kate Lester

Kathryn V. Lester, Psy.D., ABPP           
Director, Neuropsychology Program           

Dr. Lester is a board certified clinical neuropsychologist, specializing in the function of the brain and its relationship to patient behaviors. She received her Doctor of Psychology degree from Widener University with concentrations in neuropsychology and school psychology.

Dr. Lester completed her fellowship training in clinical neuropsychology at the Medical College of Georgia/Georgia Health Sciences University. Dr. Lester completed internship rotations at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital through the pre-doctoral internship program at The Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University.

Jeffrey Bessey, PhD

Dr. Bessey received his Masters from the University of Michigan in guidance and counseling. He then completed his Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Jerrold Friedman, MD

Dr. Friedman is a board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and acupuncture. He completed his medical degree at State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse. He then completed an internship in internal medicine at State Island University Hospital and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Yaakov N. Applbaum, MD
Medical Director and Chairman, Department of Radiology
Dr. Applbaum received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His residency in radiology at Maimonides Medical Center was followed by a fellowship in interventional radiology at the University of California at Irvine Medical Center. He previously served as chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Staten Island University Hospital. He is board certified in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology and neuroradiology

Ajay Choudhri, MD
Director, Interventional Radiology
Dr. Choudhri received his medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School, UMDNJ, Newark. His residency in radiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, was followed by a fellowship in interventional radiology at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute. He previously served as chief of Interventional Radiology at Jackson South Hospital in Miami. He is board certified in radiology. 

Piyush Banker, MD
Dr. Banker received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. Following his residency in diagnostic radiology at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Banker completed a fellowship in neuroradiology at the University of California in Los Angeles. He is board certified in radiology. 

Mary Gentile Mallon, MD
Dr. Mallon is a board certified radiologist who received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. She completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at The Bryn Mawr Hospital and fellowship training in pediatric radiology at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA.

Bradd R. Millian, MD
Dr. Millian received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Boston University Medical Center and received his fellowship training in neuroradiology from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. He is board certified in radiology and neuroradiology.

Esther Alisa Nimchinsky, MD, PhD
Dr. Nimchinsky received her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and her PhD in neurobiology from the City University of New York and Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. She completed her residency in radiology and was named Chief Fellow for Neuroradiology at Mount Sinai Hospital. She is board certified in radiology.

Ramdas M. Prabhu, DO
Dr. Prabhu received his medical degree from UMDNJ - School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, NJ. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology from Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and received his fellowship training in neuroradiology at Yale University School of Medical. Dr. Prabhu is board certified in radiology.

Natalya Soloveychik, DO
Dr. Soloveychik is a graduate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA. She completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center/UPMC Mercy. She received her fellowship training in neuroradiology from the University of Maryland Medical Center, Department of Radiology in Baltimore, MD. She is board certified in radiology and speaks fluent Ukranian and Russian.
