Patients at the National Brain Tumor Center are treated by a neurosurgical and neuro-oncology team of physicians with more experience than any other team in the region. Our nurse navigator also provides support and can answer questions, help patients navigate the services they need, and facilitate communication between patients and their physicians.
Together, director of Neuro-Oncology, Dr. Roy Patchell and director of Neurosurgical Oncology, Dr. Arlan Mintz have nearly 50 years of experience treating patients with brain and spinal tumors. They have also led neuro-oncology and neurosurgical oncology programs at some of the country’s premiere academic neurosurgery and neurology institutions.
A world renowned neuro-oncologist, Dr. Patchell’s clinical, research, and leadership credentials are unsurpassed. His published research defined the standard of care for patients with brain tumors, as well as spinal compression caused by cancer. Dr. Mintz is a highly respected and published neurosurgeon who was the former director of adult neurosurgical oncology at UPMC in Pittsburgh. He specializes in neurosurgical oncology and radiosurgery, and was among the first in the world to use high definition fiber tractography images during tumor resection.
