Michael L Somerstein, MD
Michael Somerstein, MD is a founding member of the Capital Health Board of Directors and served as its chairman from 2005 to 2010.
A retired medical internist and nephrologist, Dr. Somerstein founded Mercer County's first Hemodialysis Unit at the Capital Health Regional Medical Center, and served as its co-director. He received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, and continued his training with a rotating internship at Philadelphia General Hospital. Dr. Somerstein completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in nephrology and vascular disease at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.
An active medical staff member for nearly 35 years, Dr. Somerstein served as medical staff president at Helene Fuld Medical Center from 1984 to 1986. He also served as vice chairman of the Department of Medicine and has been a member of the medical staff executive committee.
His academic appointments include assistant clinical professor of Medicine, Rutgers Medical School and assistant clinical professor of Medicine, Hahnemann Medical School. Additionally, he has served as a member of the Executive Council of the New Jersey Society of Internal Medicine.
